Passport
To Washington
Sulgrave Manor is offering free entry to citizens of
the USA on Monday, February 20th to mark Presidents'
Day. This is a new initiative to for the Manor which
is the ancestral home of the family of the first President.
The Manor was purchased in the early 20th century by
donations from both sides of the Atlantic to be a symbol
of friendship between the British and American peoples.
So it is appropriate that Americans living in Britain
should be invited to come to the Manor on the day which
celebrates those who have held the office of US President
from the very first one, who was the five times great
grand-son of the man who built Sulgrave Manor. All we
ask is that Americans bring some form of formal identification
with them - their passport, military ID or similar.
Visitors will be given a tour of the manor house by
a costumed presenter focussing on the Washington family
connection and the largest collection of Washington
memorabilia in the UK.
The house opens at 10.30 and tours will run at approximately,
11.00, 12.30, 2.30 and 4.00. Each tour last about 75
minutes and then there is time to take a look at the
grounds, if the weather permits and to have some light
refreshments in the Buttery and maybe take home some
souvenirs from the shop.
