Christmas a new book has been launched.

Here, at Sulgrave Manor, we have, for many years, tried
to show how Christmas used to be. We decorate the old
house in the traditional way with evergreens and candles
and we talk with our visitors about the Yule Tide Log,
the Kissing Bough and the other customs and practices
of bygone days – Christmas before the Victorians
began the process of turning it into today’s commercial
extravaganza.
In this booklet we have gathered together all the information
we have shared with our visitors over the years.

We hope that you will enjoy finding out the background
to some of the things that still distinguish Christmas
from all other festivals – crackers, carols, Santa
Claus, pantomimes – and that it will help you to
